quick tutorial on cleaning a shell
Back to all places
Here’s a quick tutorial on cleaning a shell:
Rinse the shell: Start by rinsing the shell under warm running water to remove any sand or debris.
Soak the shell: Fill a bowl with water and add a few drops of dish soap. Let the shell soak for about 20–30 minutes to loosen dirt and grime.
Scrub gently: Use a soft brush, like an old toothbrush, to gently scrub the shell’s surface, including crevices.
Remove calcium buildup (if needed): For stubborn residue, soak the shell in a mixture of water and vinegar (1:1 ratio) for 15 minutes. Avoid prolonged exposure to vinegar, as it can damage delicate shells.
Polish the shell: Once clean, dry the shell thoroughly with a soft cloth. To enhance its shine, rub a small amount of mineral oil or baby oil onto its surface.
Display or store: Your shell is now clean and ready to be displayed or stored safely!
